New Rating System

wincustomize needs it badly

another disappointment from me....I was excited submitting my new work "Samurai" and had nice grade (8) from fair administrators but after a while it only averaged 5 from members. I think the rating system has a bit of politics here. No wonder talented folks is leaving this site. Dont get me wrong...I respect your opinions but 8 to 5 is a bit strange isnt it. Well its okey for now, I have deleted my work already so dont bother. If you want to see it, just visit this link and leave responsible comments.

this has allways been a problem, my skin solaire dark 2.2 was 4 stars for a long time then whent down, don't know why it seemed that everyone liked it and i hoped it would goto 4 to 4 and a half stars (8-9)but someone had better idears.

but when i look at the downloads it makes me smile over 26,000 downloads now and still going and all the nice comment's tooo

BUT it dose upset you i know!!!!!!!!
there will allways be someone out to mess with things and upset people....

Homeryulo, for what its worth, I rated that piece with 3 stars (which translates to a 6 numerical). I liked it, but frankly it was not the same caliber as many of your other works and pales in comparison to Bilog.
Different ideas and designs are quite refreshing and the ability to do so separates the average from the great. Just not all ideas and flavors will be received as others have been.
So buck up, resubmit that wall, and move on.

if it isn't an 8 or higher almost no one will see it and that is not fair

Out of 150+ uploads, about 16 got an 8 and not all from the start. With 42,000+ downloads, only 5 of those 8's are in the top ten. I have things with a 4 or 5 rating that have been downloaded more than some of the 8's. I can't speak for anyone else, but I almost never browse by ratings. I know when I first started coming here and browsed by ratings, I found out I was missing a lot of great work.

I believe you can change what level of rated skins you want to show up by going to your "My Account" and selecting "Show skins with this rating or higher:" any where from ALL to 5 stars

Mine is always set at 1. I wanna see it all!

If you are creating your work for ratings, that is sad indeed. If you yourself consider it a good piece and you are happy with it and feel you did a good enough job to upload it, that should be the end of it. A high rating doesn't make it better, a low rating doesn't make it worse...it's the same damn work! Get over this ratings stuff people!

Then I would say that 'especially with wallpapers' the ratings don't mean much. You are talking about what a person is going to be staring at for a good bit of the time they are on the computer. They are going to pick what they like, no matter what, over what the rating is. Not everyone likes all the abstract glassy tech stuff that is created or the cute lil cartoon crap I do. There are people right here in this thread with WP's that have a 5 or 6 rating with more downloads than all my wallpapers put together.

An artist is recognized for his style and quality of work, and then more so by those that favor that particular style. One of my best rated walls at a 7 is a bunch of cartoon cats. I know damn well Jafo isn't rushing to throw that on his desktop.

I really think personal taste has a lot more to do with the download process than ratings.

for me it really doesnt matter if my wall has been rated low initially...if you check my galleries, many of my walls have a rate of 5 and 6 and I realy dont mind. I really put a big deal on the Moderators ratings..I believe that their ratings bear the biggest weight coz they are fair in any angle. Thats why when they rated my work 8, I was confident that my wall is not that bad to be rated lower than 6...thats why I was disappointed...and to Phoon,thank you very much for giving my work a rate of 7..that is very acceptable and I appreciate your comment and support

I created my work not for rating, but in a wallpaper section you need to have at least a rating of 8 inorder for other unregistered members to appreciate it..and that is what all of us wallpaper uploaders are really hoping for...and to boss0190, dont get me wrong but being happy and contented with your work is always not the case in uploading skins here..we can just draw a circle,put a little color and texture and we may find ourselves already contented and happy....but we should consider first if other people may also appreciate it...it means quality control..and for me its very important if your are a responsible uploader.

Some people draw their inspirations from making people happy and not only themselves, thats why its important for us that our work could reach out to as many people as possible...thats is a big point.and that is why its always been a great deal for me. thanks

A variation on this thread seems to be started everytime you upload a wall lately. I shudder to think what were to happen if one of them happened to be rejected. But then you wouldn't have to worry about the ratings on that one. You're still young, I understand your frustration but hopefully with experience and time your ego will calm down a bit and your self confidence won't need ratings to stoke it. There are very few sites that have ratings. Why continue to post here if all it does is stress you. It isn't worth it.
I'm done preaching. Now who dropped my last wall from a 7 to a 5?

I may have to pull it.

i dont mind if my work would be rejected or get bad grades from the administrators or members as I have said as long as it is fair and just(you should clearly take a note on this)....If it is alright for you to sit down and dont act to solve the problem then its your prerogative not to do anything...but as for me, I would still do the same thing as long as I know something is not cooking right. It is not your concern to tackle anything about my ego, I post here and this will remain my number one skinning site (bad for you though) because I have my reasons you need to respect. I never said anything about stress, in fact, because of this it made me even motivated to continue what I have started here. I will rest my case for now, and yeah...I was thinking maybe I should try to be more friendlier the next time someone asked me to use my wall..

maybe this would boost my rating a little higher..hehe..just kidding.

None of the ratings are unfair, you just have to live with the fact not everyone is going to like what you do. If you are sensitive to that then maybe you shouldn't go public with your work.

Curious how it's only wallpaper authors who complain about ratings... hmmm....

For the record, it was me who gave the wall 8 - 'cos I liked it.

But Fuzzy...surely you forget certain bootskinners....

Most people find fault with the ratings.....because most people have different tastes and opinions...which is what makes life 'interesting'. [boring conformity/mediocrity is never fun, either]....

Cindi.... no dramas.....but I tend to get a wee bit defensive on behalf of my fellow mods....
