wincustomize needs it badly
Published on April 8, 2006 By homeryulo In WinCustomize Site Issues
another disappointment from me....I was excited submitting my new work "Samurai" and had nice grade (8) from fair administrators but after a while it only averaged 5 from members. I think the rating system has a bit of politics here. No wonder talented folks is leaving this site. Dont get me wrong...I respect your opinions but 8 to 5 is a bit strange isnt it. Well its okey for now, I have deleted my work already so dont bother. If you want to see it, just visit this link and leave responsible comments.

Thank you! Oh and yeah! This site badly needs a new rating system.

I have had this happen as well. I am not sure how it all works, but when it was a big drop like that, I brought it to the attention of the mods and a few times it was corrected.

My understanding is that the original rating carries the most weight and the rest of the ratings strength is determined by the ranking of who is rating (Journeyman, Master Apprentice, etc) I believe the mods can see who is rating what and how, and will handle things if they seem unfair.

Where you post is your business, but that is a nice wall and I'd like to see it back here along with your future work. I have watched my own stuff go up and down more often than Tom Cruise's popularity.

I'm sure someone will come along with a better explanation that is more hopeful. It's not as screwed up a rating system as you think it is.

With over half your skins at a rating of 9 or 8 (which is excellent compared to mine and some others) I wouldn't get so upset over one. The consistent quality of your work speaks for itself.

thank you Po`s Smedly, your words are encouraging. But I guess I woudnt consider reposting it again here or maybe some of my works for some time. I need to cool my temper a little bit..hehe.I experience this a lot of times and after a long time not submitting here I was disappointed that it seemd never changed. Thanks anyway.

Peoples likes and dislikes vary.  As Po said, email a supper wizop or jafo and it could have been looked into.  If ya was screwed, then it would have been corrected.  If not, would have just cost ya some time emailing.  For the record, I thought it was ok, not my style, but as I said, peoples tastes vary.

The rating system is the same as it's always been. Nothing is judged by it's quality here. It is judged by whether or not you are a brown noser, well liked by moderators and/or members of the community, or whether the moderator at the time of ratng, likes the style of it. Oh and if you happen to be part of the "in crowd". I have held this opinion back for far too long in hopes of something changing, but alas, it never will. I can just see the berating I will get now, and so be it. I am tired of sitting on the fence with my mouth closed while I watch good works and people be run into the ground.
The thing I find funny about the ratings that I have been given lately is how much they have changed, in other words they are now below what they should be ever since I renewed my subscription. A coincidence? I think not. And I have seen many wonderful pieces be rejected here. It's a power game. You either play along or you get squashed like a bug.
As a Webmaster of another skinning site I am inviting you to upload your work there. You and your work will be a wonderful addition to our site and appreciated and accepted whether we like you or your style or not. http://www.skinnalicious.net/

i did not bother e-mailing the administrators coz i think I wouldnt stop the problem by just adjusting the rate...the real problem starts in the commnity and so I prefered posting it in the forum...thanks a lot for the comments.

clwoods,

Nothing is judged by it's quality here. It is judged by whether or not you are a brown noser,

I dont know, I dont know who is rating my skins, i have no idea how i would even find out who is rating them. Also, I rarely look at the nick on a skin, i look at the skin, and to be honest i dont rate a lot of skins unless they are really well done, i used to rate some that i thought were crap as 1's but i gave that up, it doesnt matter to me.

On my skins, i look at the comments to see what people THINK not what they rate something. Id rather get a "looks good, but id like it better if you moved this, or changed that" then "love it" or "hate it", be detailed, tell me what you like. The rating is just something i see when i look at "my skins" and i dont really care, some things i think should be low end up high, and vice-versa.

I dont know about the BN's, i know there are people who want to be Ops and if that's your goal, GLWT. My Goal is journeyman, and if i make it i want there to be no doubt its deserved not given.

I no longer have any goals here. I am very busy at another website I am a webmaster at. The only reason I care about ratings is if it isn't an 8 or higher almost no one will see it and that is not fair.

 homeryulo  the ratings on that wall were...[in order] ...8, 3, 3, 7.

The '8' was the mod's [we have access to all the numbers].  The others were simply one star less than 'average' and one star more than 'average', quite acceptable in terms of reasonable opinion.

All raters were your contemporaries...ie. they were not new and/or naive.  User ID numbers are of assistance there.

Had you left it public a bit longer [it was only made visible yesterday, my time] the ratings/opinions would have levelled out to a quite comfortable median....and IF there were a serious anomaly it could/would have been looked into...as we are wont to do...

Cindi ...presumption/s of 'brown-nosing' being an influence on the part of the site moderators is quite unfair, and unfounded.

I trust as Webmaster on skinnalicious.net you won't be targetted by similar disdain.

Regarding your own ratings....if there appears to be something 'different' about them recently simply drop me an email linking to the ones of concern and I'll investigate.  It's what I do...

for me I really dont care a lot about the ranking of members..journeyman, apprentice, etc.. For me quality, and talent is more important in any skinning community. Skinning community is not yet as popular as in any other business out there and so I really think we should try our best to impress other people for them to join us.

And also degrading your work as if it is a crap is not so cool at all.
on Apr 08, 2006
And, yes Jafo, you have always been fair to me. But unfortunately you and another person here I will keep private, are not the only ones running this place. I don't care about the rating except that it keeps it from being shared with everyone if it isn't an 8 or better. I do not want to get into a debate over the rating system as it will not change a thing. If I ever suffer this kind of disdain, I will be sure I deserve it.
on Apr 08, 2006
I believe you can change what level of rated skins you want to show up by going to your "My Account" and selecting "Show skins with this rating or higher:" any where from ALL to 5 stars.
on Apr 08, 2006
Not if you aren't registered Hank. But, it's okay. I will not say anything else in this thread about it. I spoke what was on my mind and now I feel better.
on Apr 08, 2006

Cindi, its or used to be a 7 for walls if your talking about being seen by visitors.  For other skins, it will vary by the skin I was told.

And we are admins, not webmasters.....
